4.00GHZ

 PROCESSOR COOLING

There are 2 option when it comes to cooling the processor with the first being air cooled and the second being liquid cooled. 

AirCooling is a fan with a heatsink which cools the processor. Intel and AMD have their own factory designs that offer basic cooling however you will see high end cooling solutions listed from other manufacturers and these coolers are designed to lower the temperature of the processor which increases the performance and reliabity of the processor. You will also see cosmetic options such as red leds , blue leds and RGB leds. If you want to match the colour of the leds on your case you can select a cooler combination that suits. Air Cooling is recommends for home , business and low to medium end gaming pcs.

Liquid Cooling offers increased cooling for better performance and reliability. The liquid cooling solution has a sealed resorvoir containing the cooling liquid and the pump will circulate the liquid in a closed loop system which cools the processor through a block that sits on top of the processor. Liquid Cooling is designed to reduce the temperature of the processor and this can increase the potential for overclocking the processor in high end gaming systems. Liquid cooling solutions also offer lower noise over air coolers. Liquid cooling is recommended for high end gaming pcs and workstations.

MOTHERBOARDS

The motherboard ( also known as mainboard) is an important part of your PC and is where the memory , processor , hard drives and processor are connected to. The motherboard will have a chipset and a socket to suit the processor and memory slots to suit the graphics card. The difference between motherboad options will be chipset and ports. Entry level motherboard will have fewer slots for memory , hard drives as well as USB and other expansion ports.

When choosing a motherboard please remember to plan ahead as the motherboard is a fundamental component and upgrading it in the future will be costly.

For Low to Mid Range Gaming & Entry Level Home & Business PCs you should only require 2 memory slots ( Max 16GB ) and 1 x 16X PCI-E Slot ( Graphics Card ) and 6 x SATA Ports ( HDDs and SDDs ) however if you plan to have more than 16GB of memory or multiple graphics cards you will require a higher specification motherboard that has the extra slots.

For Mid to High Range Gaming and Business Workstations it is recommended that you choose a motherboard with 4 memory slots or more.

Modern motherboards to suit AMD Ryzen and Intel 7th & 8th Generation processors will have 2 ( Max 32GB ) or 4 (Max 64GB) slots. If you require more than 64GB you will find Intel X299 and AMD Threadripper which will have up to 8 (128GB Max) slots.

RAM (RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY) is important to all desktop pcs and laptops. The more memory installed in your system the more information can be processed simultanously. This means the your applications for gaming and productivity run faster based on the amount of memory installed in your system.

DDR4 system memory installed in our PCs is manufactured by Crucial or Adata and if covered for up to 3 years under the terms of our hardware warranty.

We recommend 4GB for Home or Business PCs as the minimum and 8GB as the minimum for Performance Gaming PCs. Graphics Workstations or High End Gaming PCs should have 16GB for optimum performance.

The speed of the memory is less important with low to mid range PCs and Laptops however with high end Graghics Workstations & Gaming PCs the speed of the memory will marginally improve performance. If your PC has integrated graphics it is important to consider higher speed memory to improve the performance of the graphics on the system as the graphics processor shares the system memory. 

ECC VS NON ECC Memory. ECC Stands for Error Correcting Code and for Home , Gaming & Business Desktop PCs NON ECC memory is standard and offers reliable performance. ECC memory is primarily used in high end Intel Xeon Workstations and Servers and offers a level of protection which is not required by most users. 

LATENCY. The lower the number the better the performance. CAS-LATENCY refers to the delay time between the moment a memory controller tells the memory module to access a particualr column on the memory module and the moment the data from the given array location is available to the memory modules output pins. It is not imporant to understand this and just remember the lower the number the better the performance.

HEAT SPEADER. Heat Spreaders / heat sinks on memory modules is designed to lower the temeprature and increase the life and reliability of the memory module. If a PC will be turned on an in operation continiously then the heat spreader would be considered a requirement. If however the PC is for normal home , business or gaming use this is an optional extra.

Graphics Card

The graphics card which is also known as the video card is the most important choice when the PC or Workstations main purpost is Gaming or 3D Rendering.

There are 2 different distinct choices when it comes to graphics cards which are Dedicated and Integrated(OnBoard).

Integrated(OnBoard) graphics cost considerably less and this is what you will find in entry level gaming pcs and even in gaming consoles. The main advantage is that they save you money and the disadvantages are that integrated graphics share their memory with the system DDR4 memory which means they are slower and tie up system resources. If you are spending under €500 Integrated Graphics will offer low to low mid range performance which will allow you to play the latest games on low to mid settings.

Dediated Graphics Cards are installed into a PCI-E slot on the Motherboard with higher end cards drawing their power directly from the power supply.  Dedicated Graphics Cards such as the Nvidia GeForce GT1030 and Radeon RX550 have their own onboard video memory which allows them to operate faster and create a better visual experience. 

Modern Games require a dedicated graphics cards to play games at Mid Level Settings and above. Higher end graphics card such as the Nvidia GeForce GTX1060 6GB are capable of Virtual Reality and can be used with the Oculus Rift and other VR Headsets. 

If you are looking for a low cost gaming or office PC and you require a powerful graphics card you can choose for Gaming the Nvidia GeForce GTX1050 or above and for business you can choose the GT1030 or above.

For mid level gaming or higher you need to consider the Nvidia GeForce GTX1060 or Above.

For true high end or 4K gaming you should consider the Nvidia GeForce GTX1070 or Above.

Your graphics card can be upgraded in the future to keep up with the latest games. 

Hard Disk Drives

Hard Disk Drives are a storage solution that can be used to store data such as video files , documents and applications as well as operating as your Boot Drive for Windows 10.

3.5" Hard Disk Drives offer low cost per Gigabyte over Solid State Drives and therefore offer an ideal solution for all types of PCs and Workstations.

The advantages of 3.5" Hard Disks drives are reliability and vast storage capability up to 12 Terabytes of a single drive.

The disadvantages over SSD ( Solid State Drives ) is access speeds and therefore the ideal solution for extra performance is to have a small SSD drive which will be used for Windows and Applications and then use the 3.5" Hard disk to store your data.

If you only have one drive in your PC then that drive should be a Hard Disk Drive which will give you vast storage space and reliability for many years.

STORAGE

All of your files, programs, music and videos are held on a storage drive. There are four major kinds to choose from:

HARD DISK DRIVES

More commonly known as Hard Drives, HDDs are mechanical disk drives used for storing large amounts of data. The vast majority of PCs have an HDD, the only thing to consider when choosing one is how much space you need.

SOLID STATE DRIVES

An SSD is a much faster version of a hard drive. Rather than having a mechanical disk, it has digital flash memory, like a USB pen. The only drawback is that SSDs have lower capacities than hard drives; that's why the most common set-up we see, and certainly the one we recommend, utilises both types of drive: an SSD to store Windows, your games and your programs, and then a larger hard drive to store all your documents, music, pictures and videos. There is minimal benefit to loading such small files from an SSD, but booting Windows and your programs from the SSD will be noticeably faster, so it's the best of both worlds

HYBRID DRIVES

A Solid State Hybrid Drive is, as it sounds, a combination between the two main types of drive. It's a mechanical hard drive with a small amount of solid state memory included. Your PC then allocates the files automatically, so to the user, the only difference between a hybrid drive and a normal drive is a slight speed boost..

OPTICAL DRIVES

Optical Drives are DVD and BluRay drives and come in different versions such as DVD+RW which can read and write onto DVD discs . BluRay drives come in two versions with the first being a BluRay Combo drive which can read DVD and BluRay discs and write to DVD however a COMBO drive cannot write to a BluRay disc and the second being a BluRay Writer which can read and write to both DVD and BluRay discs.

Optical drives are fast disappearing from both desktop pcs and laptops as the technology has been superceeded by USB Memory drives and SD Memory Cards. 

When purchasing a desktop pc you can select to have a DVD or BluRay drive installed once the PC Case is designed to house the drive. If the PC Case does not house the drive you will see an option to purchase an external USB DVD or BluRay Drive that will connect to the USB port on your PC. 

If you are purchasing a modern laptop the only only is for an external USB DVD/BluRay.

If you want to play DVD Movies on your desktop PC or Laptop you will need a BluRay Combo Optical drive.

WIFI - WIRELESS

The options listed here are to add a PCI-E Internal Wifi Card to a desktop PC with speeds from 300Mbps to 1733 Mbit/s

The bigger the Mbps the faster the transfer rate between your router and your PC however the speed is limited by the maximum speed the router is capable of therefore if you install a 1733Mbps Wifi Card in your PC and your Router only supports 300Mbps then your maximum speed between the router and the PC will be 300Mbps.

Fibre broadband is available from 50Mbps to over 1000Mbps and therefore if you have a service capable of more than 300Mbps you should choose a Wifi card which matches your available speed. If you are in doubt a quick call to your internet service provider should answer the question of which wifi card to choose.

For Home , Gaming , Educational and Business applications the 300Mbps is more than sufficient for a smooth experience.

The Power Supply is an inportant part of your PC and care should be taken when chhosing which power supply is right for your intended use with the PC.

If your PC is intended for entry level gaming or home and office use then you can slect the ECO Range of PSUs from the options available in dropdown menu. 

If however you intend to use your PC for Mid to High Range Gaming or as a Business Workstation we would recommend choosing an 80+ Bronze Certified power supply or above. The wattage you require is based on the graphics card you have in your PC. Nvidia GeForce GT1030 , GTX1050 and GTX1050Ti as well as Radeon RX550 and RX560 graphics cards obtain their power through the motherboard and an ECO 500 Watt PSU will suffice however with more power hungry cards you will require an 80+ Certified PSU. You will see more information on this below.

NOT ACTIVATED
If you choose Windows 10 NOT ACTIVATED we will install Windows 10 updated to the latest version and install all of the drivers for your hardware. Your PC will then be ready to work straight away without you having to install Windows 10 or any of the device drivers. You will however be using Windows in NOT ACTIVATED mode and you will not be supplied with a Windows 10 Licence Sticker (Code to Register Windows 10). Windows 10 in NOT ACTIVATED MODE will update and work however you will not be able to personalise your desktop and there will always be a notice on the bottom right stating you are using a NOT ACTIVATED version of Windows 10.

Choosing NOT ACTIVATED is ideal if you already have a Windows Licence or you intend to purchase one later. It is not intended for those trying to avoid purchasing a Windows License !
